Clutch.
This was far from a vintage Irish performance. The offensive failings of old returned to haunt Joe Schmidt's side once again as they met a French outfit that were far from the disorganized mess we were led to believe would turn up.
Those issues will be addressed over the oncoming week. But for now, appreciate the manner of the win. More specifically, appreciate the genius of Jonny Sexton.
It was a magnificent and courageous kick that salvaged the game and the tournament for Ireland. Sexton initially instigated the move with a sensational cross-field kick for Earls. Ireland quickly went through the phases and Murray repeatedly glanced towards Sexton, waiting for the signal.
Sexton delivered when Ireland needed him most.
Oh good lord, cross field kick with the clock in the red and then the stones to take it on from 45. 🙌🙌🙌

Sexton had cramp 10 minutes earlier and was hobbling at one stage of the 40 plus drive leading up to his shot. To kick from that distance in all of the circumstances shows incredible self belief. #fravire

The most striking aspect of Sexton's recovery was his accuracy. Ireland controlled huge portions of the game but after 70 minutes were visibly tired. One of the men down struggling with cramp was Johnny Sexton.
It didn't matter. He rose to deliver a pinpoint accurate kick to Earls and followed it up with the epic winner.
Peerless.
