England's defence coach John Mitchell has claimed that Ireland will try and "bore the shit out of us" in the Six Nations opener at the Aviva Stadium this Saturday.

Mitchell doubled down on Eddie Jones' claim that Ireland are the best team in the world and the clear favourites for the tie.

"Ireland are arguably the best in the world, and Ireland for me are a well-coached side," he told the BBC.

"They are resilient, they will try and bore the shit out of us basically. It will come down to a small piece of position when you are not focused they can hurt you."

Mitchell joined the English coaching team last September. The ex-All Blacks coach is reported to have agreed a package worth £500,000 to take the role until the end of the World Cup.

His expertise will get a thorough examining this weekend, with Ireland and England kicking off at 4.45pm.
