Over the last decade, Irish fly-halfs moving to play their club rugby in France has become more and more common. You think of former international Johnny Sexton's move to Racing 92. This year, former Munster man Joey Carberry has made the move to Bordeaux.

Former Ireland U20 Grand Slam-winning coach Noel McNamara has taken the reins of Bordeaux as attack coach and knows Carberry inside out. The Clare man is carving out a serious reputation as a coach since his move over 12 months ago leading Bordeaux to the final of the Top 14 in his first full season in charge.

28-year-old Carbery has ended his six-year spell with the province as he moves to France in search of a fresh start following a frustrating couple of seasons on the injury table. Having suffered awful luck of late, Carbery still undoubtedly has huge potential to flourish for Bordeaux.

Joey Carberry's Rotten Luck With Injuries Continues In Bordeaux

Unfortunately, Carbery's luck with injuries since his move to France doesn't seem to have changed as it's reported that he has a suspected broken hand from the opening half of his Bordeaux debut this weekend against Lyon.

The Irish International didn't return from the dressing room for the second half with France International Matthieu Jalibert coming on in his place. Last season's top 14 runners-up where defeated 28-26 following a last minute penalty from Lyon fly-half Leo Berdeu.

Bordeaux's head coach Yannick Bru confirmed Carbery's injury in the post-match press conference and added that it was suspected that he suffered a fracture of his hand.

His hand has swollen enormously,

There is a suspicion of fracture. Despite his good performance, we were forced to replace him.

The club will assess the extent of Carbery's injury in the coming days as they prepare for the next stage of their Top 14 campaign. But the former Munster man looks to set for a period on the sidelines.
