It was the James Lowe show at the RDS this evening, with the Leinster back's performance making Irish rugby fans curse the fact he not yet eligible to turn out for the national side.

The New Zealand born 26-year-old was instrumental in his side's performance this afternoon as Leinster began the defence of the European Cup with a commanding 52-3 over Wasps.

For Lowe the pick of the bunch was a sensational solo run in the second half, in which the back took a brilliant line, leaving the Wasps' defence flummoxed:

The half back was a key player in Leinster's fourth try of the afternoon, receiving the ball from Tadhg Furlong before again showing great pace before offloading to Luke McGrath to touch down.

Lowe was also on the end of a sensational piece of play by Jonny Sexton, the Ireland outhalf throwing the ball between his legs to set up Lowe for his second try of the night.
