What a start to the World Cup for Ireland! Ireland destroyed Scotland and wiped away eight months of bad vibes and World Cup dread. It wasn't just Ireland's old hands - Sexton, Murray etc - who marshalled the victory. Ireland's bench was imperious, with Jack Conan, Chris Farrell and Jack Carty looking very comfortable.

Ireland delivered a passage of truly sexy rugby after going up 24-3. It started with a moment of genius of Jack Carty and finished with an absolutely delicious offload from Farrell.

Unfortunately Luke McGrath's offload was inaccurate and Ireland's attack was halted. But it was proof of the kind of rugby Ireland can play. The replays rightly zoned in on that Farrell offload, but my god, that kick from Carty belongs in the National Museum of Ireland.

Next up Japan, next Saturday.
