James Coughlan was always criminally underrated. At least, that's what the Munster brigade will always tell you. He's up there with Ian Dowling and Barry Murphy in a long list of players who never got the appropriate recognition from the rest of the country.
Which is why Munster fans were dismayed when Coughlan left to turn Pau into James Coughlan's Pau.
They can rejoice now though, or at least take some sort of pride in knowing that they were right all along, and that one of their own is finally getting the recognition he deserves.
Bizarrely, the Pro D2 have only announced their players of last season now - and the former Munster no. 8 is the big winner:

Based on my leaving cert French, Coughlan has been named the best player in the Pro D2 in 2014/15 as he helped the team get promoted into the Top 14. He's since been joined by Sean Dougall, Paddy Butler, and Conrad Smith - but the team will always be known as "James Coughlan's Pau".
