Six months after tweeting his opposition to gay marriage, Australian rugby star Israel Folau has expounded his belief that "God's plan" for homosexuals is to send them to "HELL... Unless they repent of their sins and turn to God".
Folau is deeply religious - his Twitter bio reads "I love God. Living the dream? #TeamJesus?" - and the latest in a series of religious posts on his social media accounts was this, sketching out what he believes God's plan.
In the comment section, Folau was asked what God's plan is for homosexuals, to which he replied "HELL... Unless they repent of their sins and turn to God". Six months ago, Folau tweeted that " love and respect all people for who they are and their opinions but personally, I will not support gay marriage", and has stood firmly by his views. Australia's parliament voted to legalise same-sex marriage in December after the vote returned an overwhelming majority in favour of same-sex unions.
This latest comment by Folau comes less than a week after the Pope denied that hell existed in an interview with La Repubblica. The Vatican responded that this interview was not a "faithful transcription of the words of the Holy Father".
