To no one's massive surprise, CJ Stander has been named the Zurich IRUPA Players' Player of the Year for 2016. He was bestowed with the award by his fellow players the 14th annual awards ceremony.
Stander earned the Man of the Match award in his first Six Nations match against Wales. He scored his first international try in Ireland's victory over Italy in the fourth match.
I’m delighted to win this award. Receiving recognition from my fellow peers is the ultimate accolade. I will remember this season fondly, from winning my first cap, to scoring my first international try and ultimately winning this award.
Stander's standing is similarly high among Irish supporters. In addition to the players' accolade, he was voted the Irish Times Supporters' Player of the Year.
Josh Van der Flier won the Nevin Spence Young Player of the Year 2016. He made his international debut against England in Twickenham.
