Mick Kearney will leave his role as Ireland team manager after today's final game of the November internationals against Australia.
Kearney will be replaced by former Ireland international Paul Dean.
Speaking to the Irish Daily Mail, Kearney said that during his four years as team manager, he landed some big names as motivational speakers for the team. He revealed that there is one man which the squad want to hear talk who he was not able to secure - Conor McGregor.
I organised Usain Bolt, Rory McIlroy, Barry McGuigan, Niall Quinn, Sonia O'Sullivan, lots of good sportspeople to talk to the lads but the one person they really want to get in now is Conor McGregor.
Kearney says that even though he will no longer be in the role, he could assist Dean in getting McGregor as a speaker.
They felt I might be able to pull that off before I left. I've a connection through someone I know to his coach John Kavanagh. If I can assist when I'm gone I will do that, but as I said to Paul I have to leave somebody for him to get because we have got a lot of good ones in.
With McGregor set for a hiatus from the UFC due to the birth of his first child with girlfriend Dee Devlin, he will have time off - conveniently around next year's Six Nations.
McGregor having a few words with the Irish players before a Six Nations decider against England on March 18th is a possible scenario.
Kearney says that there is plenty of respect for McGregor within the Irish dressing room.
There's a lot of admiration. When it comes to the talk, at the end of the day Conor is trying to sell tickets and pay-per-views but beneath it all he's a seriously good athlete.
Our guys admire seriously good athletes from around the world and they would like to find out how he mentally prepares for his fights.
