The first injury update that we didn't want to hear is upon us. Peter O'Mahony is out of the World Cup with the Irish setup confirming the disappointing news this morning.

While the outlook on Paul O'Connell has been bleak, Joe Schmidt had raised hopes somewhat that his Munster teammate could make a recovery following yesterday's titanic clash with France.
We’re hopeful about Pete. I think it was a twist of the ankle or knee. Hopefully he is going to be okay.
Unfortunately that has not proven to be the case with knee ligament damage being cited as the reason for his withdrawal from the squad.
As for O'Connell and Sexton, we still have to wait and see. Although we can always hope, the Ireland captain is rated as extremely doubtful to make a return.
Sexton on the other hand has suffered a groin injury with hopes being that he is now essentially the last of the injured trio to be in with a chance of seeing further action during the tournament.

As of yet, Irish Rugby have confirmed that there has been no decision made on who could be called up to fill the boots of O'Mahony or Jared Payne who was forced out of the tournament last week.
More to follow.
