South African born lock Quinn Roux is the surprise selection in Joe Schmidt’s Ireland side to face South Africa in the second test this Saturday at Ellis Park in Johannesburg, with highly-touted lock Ultan Dillane not making the squad.
The Connacht man replaces Iain Henderson alongside Devin Toner, with Henderson moving to #6 to fill the gap left by CJ Stander after his dismissal last weekend.
The Ulster pair of Stuart Olding and Craig Gilroy come into the side, with Olding taking the place of his Province-mate Luke Marshall while Gilroy is a like-for-like replacement for Keith Earls on the wing.
Tadhg Furlong will start at loose-head, with Mike Ross rested from the match-day squad entirely.
Schmidt has also added the considerable ballast of Rhys Ruddock to the forwards, where he take the #7 jersey from his Leinster colleague Jordi Murphy.
The bench sees the additions of South African import Richardt Strauss, Dave Kilcoyne, Donnacha Ryan, Sean Reidy and Tiernan O’Halloran to the 23-man squad.
