11 uncapped players have been named in a 37-man Ireland squad for next month's tests against Japan and USA.
Robert Baloucoune, Tom O’Toole, Nick Timoney (Ulster), Caolin Blade, Tom Daly, Paul Boyle (Connacht), Harry Byrne, Peter Dooley, Ross Molony (Leinster), Gavin Coombes and Fineen Wycherley (Munster) will all be aiming to make their Ireland debuts in July.
The squad will be captained by Leinster second row James Ryan.
"Johnny (Sexton), Cian (Healy) and Keith (Earls) will not be involved in this window as we grow the experience of other players," explained Ireland head coach Andy Farrell.
Ireland will also be with Bundee Aki, Tadhg Beirne, Jack Conan, Tadhg Furlong, Iain Henderson, Robbie Henshaw and Conor Murray who are all part of the Lions squad for the tour of South Africa. Andrew Porter was also due to be part of the Lions squad but was forced to withdraw due to a toe injury.
Both fixtures - against Japan on July 3rd and USA on July 10th - will be played at the Aviva Stadium, and be part of the outdoor pilot sport event programme which will allow a limited number of spectators to attend.
"We now have two games at home to focus on which will be a good challenge for the group," said Farrell.
"Japan played the Sunwolves at the weekend and will play the Lions the week before we play at the Aviva Stadium and we know the quality of their squad from the World Cup. We will assemble as a squad on the 22nd June and begin our preparations for the two games."
