Ireland lost more than the game on Saturday, they have also lost the services of at least two players for the match against England on February 27th.

Joe Schmidt issued an update on the health of his squad today, informing that Sean O'Brien sustained a grade two hamstring tear after 20 minutes against France. The Leinster back row is definitely out for the game in 12 days time. The typical recovery time for a grade two hamstring tear is four to eight weeks, which would suggest O'Brien's Six Nations is over. Also out for the trip to Twickenham is Dave Kearney who suffered an AC joint injury as a result of a dangerous tackle from France captain Guilhem Guirado.

Mike McCarthy obviously suffered concussion and he will follow the return to play protocols but we will also get him to see a specialist, just because of the nature of the impact.

Sean O'Brien has a grade two hamstring tear that will make him unavailable for the England game. We'll see how he tracks beyond that.

Dave Kearney has an AC joint injury and a very sore shoulder and neck. He's also very likely to miss the England game as a result of that.

We've got Jonathan Sexton, again his neck and shoulder, it's more of a whiplash injury. He is certainly feeling a lot better post game.

Jared Payne has a grade one hamstring strain. He actually did it in the first half. We already had to put Fergus McFadden on when Dave Kearney got taken out so on the basis of that, Jared just said he'd go as long as he could. He was doing such a good job for us, defensively I thought he shut down some opportunities that they had. He managed to get through that but he certainly won't train this week. We'll just have to monitor him in the lead up to the England game.

Schmidt did have a modicum of good news. Front row pair Cian Healy and Mike Ross both played for Leinster against Zebre at the weekend, getting through the game without recurrence of the injuries which have kept them out of action for the opening two matches of the Six Nations.

On the positive side, Cian Healy and Mike Ross got through a bit of time Leinster at the weekend. They'll spend a little bit of time with us this week before going back to play with Leinster again.
