The younger brother of Ireland and Leinster star Jack Boyle has captained St. Michael's College to their seventh Junior Cup title against Castleknock College on Wednesday afternoon.

Herbie is the younger brother of Jack, who made his international debut for Ireland during this year's Six Nations against Wales and followed it up with another cap against Italy last week.

Now, Herbie looks to hold all the keys required to follow in the footsteps of his older brother who won a Senior Cup with Michaels and is paving out a professional career with Ireland and Leinster.

Herbie Boyle leads Michaels to Junior Cup Glory

Having starred in last year's Leinster's school's Junior Cup, Boyle was back again captaining the side this year.

The backrow led St. Michael's College to Junior Cup glory with an emphatic four tries against Castleknock. The number eight was ruthless in his pursuit of the try-line, knocking bodies back to touch down for Michael's second try of the game. Herbie would strike again on the half-hour mark, before securing a hat trick in the 33rd minute.

While he'd already scored a hat trick in last year's Junior Cup, the Michael's captain would take it one step further this year by crossing the whitewash for the final time before the 50th minute.

It was an emphatic 11-try victory for the south Dublin school.

Aside from the obvious leadership skills required to bring his side to one of the most coveted titles in underage Irish rugby, Herbie Boyle is well known for his bruising power off the back of scrums and much like his brother, certainly has all the physical traits of a great rugby player.

While he still has a few years to go before even the prospect of pro rugby, don't be surprised if the youngster is lining it out for Michael's in the Senior Cup as a transition year next year. From there, both schools and academy call-ups won't be far out of reach if Boyle can continue his current trajectory.

With the knowledge and wisdom of a now-international prop to lean on at home, Herbie Boyle is definitely one to watch for the future.

Today's 73-0 win over Castleknock continued St. Michael's impressive season-long unbeaten run and saw them claim their first Junior Cup title since their 2022 win over Roscrea.

It was an interesting Leinster Junior Cup campaign, with Andy Farrell's son Gabriel playing hooker for the Blackrock College team that Castleknock defeated in the semifinal.
