Whatever about your thoughts on whether Robbie Henshaw's move to Leinster being the right thing for Irish rugby - the fact is that Henshaw probably wasn't thinking about our opinions when he decided to move. It was the 22-year-old's choice, and while some of us don't agree, it's hard to argue with his reasoning.
Speaking at the Irish team's open training session in Mullingar, the man from Westmeath revealed that he had a lot of sleepless nights about his decision before going into the reasons why he decided to leave the province he'd been playing for since he was 14:
My girlfriend is in Dublin and I have family in Dublin, so there's that. I just feel it's a new stage for me, a complete change for my career. There's nothing negative at all, it's just what's best for Robbie Henshaw and that's the reason. It was completely my decision - just so people know, it wasn't the IRFU's decision, it was mine.
Now, admittedly there was more that Henshaw said about his reasons, but one thing in particular caught my eye:
My girlfriend is in Dublin.
That seems fair. Credit to Henshaw for remaining honest the entire time and not feeding the world cliches about his move. It's easy to remain in denial about making life decisions based on girlfriends - I'm still in denial about choosing which college I went to because of a girl.
Whatever your feelings about the move, it's time to get behind the 22-year-old's decision and hope it turns out for the best for all concerned.
