The Ireland rugby side had an almost perfect day yesterday. Arrive, score nine tries, annihilate the Italians and leave with five points. That's a good day at the office regardless of individual performances.
The only blot on their copy was Donnacha Ryan's sin-bin in the first half. Ireland were eleven points ahead at the time, so it was no real harm done. It did provide captain Jamie Heaslip with a perfect opportunity though when he watched the game back on his laptop.
Ryan looked fairly annoyed at the cameraman trying to capture him sitting on the bench in the bin. Cue a caption from Heaslip that suited the moment.
For those that don't get it, it's a reference to a famous quote in John B.Keane's 'The Field':
No. It’s my field. It’s my child. I nursed it, nourished it. I saw to its every want. I dug the rocks out of it with my bare hands and I made a living thing of it! My only want is that green grass, that lovely green grass, and you want to take it away from me, and in the sight of God I can’t let you do that!
It's a good sign of the camaraderie between this Irish squad. Now to eagerly expect Paddy Jackson to put a quote from Father Ted on a CJ Stander pic.
John Hayes might have something to say about Ryan taking over his field.
