Irish rugby fans can finally put their minds at ease.
Cian Tracey of the Irish Independent is reporting that Ireland head coach Joe Schmidt has penned a contract extension with the IRFU, which will see him lead the team into the Rugby World Cup in Japan in three years' time.
Tracey reports that Schmidt has already informed players of his decision to remain in charge for the next three years.
The Kiwi, who has been in charge since 2013, spent the majority of his summer at home in New Zealand for family reasons following Ireland's series defeat in South Africa.
Earlier this year, Super Rugby franchises the Highlanders and the Chiefs expressed their interest in accruing Schmidt's services, with the prestigious All Blacks head coaching position dependant on candidates having coached back in the homeland for a number of years before assuming the mantle.
Schmidt might well end up in the All Blacks hotseat one day in the future, but not before steering Ireland to Japan next summer, and again in three years' time.
