Munster Rugby have confirmed that Gordon Wood, son of Ireland legend Keith Wood has joined the Munster Rugby academy as one of seven year-one players.
Gordon Wood, who plays his trade at centre has already been involved with Munster at underage level making appearances for Munster U18 schools and the Munster U19s.
Keith's son is also a graduate of one of Ireland's most iconic rugby schools, Limerick's St. Munchins playing both Junior and Senior Cup Rugby there.
After graduating from Munchins, Wood moved to Garryowen where he made his AIL debut last season, making thirteen further appearances and scoring a try in the club's pivotal playoff final which saw Garryowen promoted to Division 1A of the All-Ireland final.

Gordon Wood the latest to add to growing family dynasty
While Gordon has been promoted to the Munster Rugby Academy, in Garryowen he's just one of three siblings who are quickly becoming one of Munster Rugby's newest family dynasties.
Gordon's oldest brother Alex is also a Garryowen stalwart, while his younger brother Tom is quite the prospect down south, appearing at out-half for Munster's development squad clash with Ulster in December 2023. Tom who is also a product of St. Munchins also lined out for the Ireland U18s earlier this year when they travelled to Parma for the U18 Six Nations Festival.
Both Tom and Gordon are becoming ever-present in the Munster Rugby set-up, with Gordon's ascension to the academy following on from multiple training sessions with the Munster Senior Squad and an appearance in the senior side's pre-season friendly versus Gloucester.
Should Gordon and Tom be lining out for Munster in the years to come, they'll have had plenty of experience playing together. Not only did they both appear alongside each other on the Munster Rugby Development squad, but all three of Keith Wood's sons have also lined out together for Garryowen.
Their father, Keith Wood, was among those who attended the crunch clash his sons played versus AIL giants Clontarf in September, with the Ireland legend and his three sons grabbing a snap together.

While the fifty-eight International caps and five British and Irish Lions caps earned by their father will be a tall task for anyone to live up to, judging by the path Gordon and Tom are taking, the Wood name could be far from dead in Irish rugby.
