Gordon D'Arcy has spilled the beans to Pat Kenny, emotionally opening up on why he has grown his beard. To our dismay, there's nothing hipster or manly behind his reasoning, it's just down to laziness.

'During pre-season you get a little bit lazy,' he told Kenny. 'When the season kicked in I decided ''Why not? I'll give it a whack.'' My wife likes it. She's the most important person.'
Any fan of Balls will know that if there's one thing we appreciate here more than anything is a great beard. Especially Gordon D'Arcy's glorious face garnish. Indeed it was only yesterday we were experimenting with what it would look like on other Irish rugby legends.
