The Leinster Schools Cup is perhaps the most satirised competition in Irish sport, but it has a delightful habit of coming up with the goods, time and time again.
And thanks to the superb innovations of Eir Sport's online coverage over the last couple of years, the good word of schools rugby has travelled beyond the cloistered halls of the schools involved and the mouths (and newspaper columns) of past players.
The style of rugby occasionally enters the realm of the astonishing, and today was one such, bewitching example. Gonzaga took on Roscrea in the quarter-finals earlier this afternoon, and emerged comfortable victors, on a scoreline of 41-24.
The moment of the game was the remarkable, flowing move in the second-half, which widened the gap to ten points just after the break. It's utterly delightful to watch:
TRY @Gonzagadublin!
48: Roscrea 19-29 Gonzaga. Sensational try from Gonzaga as they open up a 10-point lead. #LSSC https://t.co/Se0pfqJY1X— eir Sport (@eirSport) February 15, 2017
Remarkable. Gonzaga advance to the semi-finals, where they will face Blackrock. The other semi-final will pit Clongowes against Belvedere.
