This has absolutely no place in the game.

Munster endured a difficult start to their URC quarter-final against Glasgow Warriors this evening, with both Peter O'Mahony and RG Snyman forced off due to injury in the opening stages of the game.

Despite this, they would manage to get the first try of the game via Malakai Fekitoa in the 22nd minute.

That was an encouraging sign for Munster, who would soon be given a one-man advantage on their opponents.

Tom Jordan has had a brilliant season for Glasgow, but this tackle was nothing short of a disgrace.

With Conor Murray advancing down the wing for Munster, he lined up a big hit on the scrum half from quite some distance away. Instead of going low, he drove his shoulder into the head of the opposition player, injuring himself in the process.

It was as clear of a red card as you are ever likely to see, with Andrea Piardi showing little hesitation in sending him off.

Conor Murray would be forced off for a HIA as a result of the tackle.

Red cards are becoming increasingly common in rugby as the authorities attempt to limit the number of head injuries in the sport. While some players who are dismissed can consider themselves slightly unfortunate due to a mistimed tackle, Tom Jordan can have absolutely no complaints about this decision.

That is a red card in any era of the game. In truth, it was a disgraceful hit to produce on another player.

At this stage, you would have hoped that hits such as this one would have been eradicated from the game altogether. Unfortunately, it seems that we are some way away from making that a reality.
