It was physical and frustrating for Leinster but eventually they ground a win out of a resilient Castres thanks to the boot of Ian Madigan. An early Castres try following a strong drive set the tone for the day and it took three penalties from Madigan to leave Leinster in front at half time.
It looked like they might kick on from there but Castres regrouped at half time and came out strongly, particularly in defence. However, two more penalties from Madigan kept Leinster within touching distance and when Jamie Heaslip was subject to a careless high tackle from Piula Fa'asalele. Madigan had the chance to sneak Leinster in front.
Another Madigan penalty minutes later left the scoreline 21-16 and, although it certainly wasn't pretty stuff, the result was key and taking a win out of France should always be celebrated.
