Today marks the final day that George Hook will grace the RTE studios as a rugby pundit, answering every question asked of him by completely changing the subject. The Montrose institution managed to eke out some criticism from Joe Schmidt during the week and Hooky has used his Independent column today to fire back.
He seems to be labouring under the misconception that those who comment on the game are part of the marketing campaign for the Irish rugby team.
This is a familiar rebuttal for George, one he has used already this year to jab back at Rob Kearney's criticism of him, but as ever he has to go too far:
Ireland didn't score at all at the Millennium Stadium last weekend, where green jerseys repeatedly and unsuccessfully attempted to bash their way over the white line in a display of tactical naivety that wouldn't look out of place in the Mongolian national team.
No one disputes that Ireland's gameplan came unstuck in the face of immense Welsh pressure last week but to aim a barb like that at a man generally considered to be one of the most tactically astute coaches in world rugby is well....it's Hook isn't it?
