In his injury update briefing in Dublin yesterday, Joe Schmidt said that Johnny Sexton had suffered a 'whiplash' injury in the closing stages of Saturday's game.
And he admitted his frustration when 'external pundits start making medical diagnoses from something they see or think happens'.
The 'external pundit' in question, or so everyone assumes, has his own show on Newstalk and responded to Schmidt's claims this evening.
Hook essentially believes that coaches are unqualified to talk about matters of concussion and this should be placed in the hands of medics.
The Irish coach Joe Schmidt is unhappy that I'm criticising him and worried about the damage to rugby players. I think it's really interesting, if you go to the Irish rugby website where he's interviewed on television, he actually says that Johnny Sexton had a whiplash injury and I think what we need now more and more is we need the IRFU to put medical people out when talking about injuries, not coaches.
Coaches have a totally different view as to whether a player should play or not play. The IRFU have a medical doctor and he should go out and he should hold a press conference and he should talk about the injuries and then I think we'd all feel an awful lot happier.
