Ian Madigan has gone down a somewhat different career path compared to moth Irish internationals, but it has certainly been paying off for the man.
French newspaper L’Equipe revealed the Top 14’s highest earners and there was few surprises as it revealed Dan Carter is the league's most profiting player by significant chunk more than everyone else.
Carter stood at the top with his €1.5m per year deal with Matt Giteau the second highest with less than half of that at €700,000. Poor Matt.
Another revelation the newspaper made was that Ian Madigan is making a little bit more than any of the provinces here probably would have been offering him.
The outgoing fly-half is still on his contract with Bordeaux, and is earning over €35,000 a month, but will be taking an even bigger pay cheque when he moves to Bristol next season to play in the much lesser acclaimed IPA Championship.
Madigan’s Bristol deal is reported to be in or around €48,000 per month and will run for three years and will be joining up with Pat Lam who announced he would also be leaving Connacht to coach.
