The Fiji Rugby Union has announced plans to lodge an official complaint with the IRB over the performance of referee Leighton Hodges, after the Welshman sent five of their players to the sin bin during Saturday's 37-31 defeat to Italy.

The Pacific Islanders were reduced to 11 men at one stage, with Akapusi Qera, Asaeli Tikoirotuma, Masi Matadigo and Nemani Nadolo all sent to the bin between the 20th and 28th minute. Replacement Sisa Koyamaibole was then binned in the second half.

The Italians certainly felt the impact of the hard hits, with centre Luca Morisi having his spleen removed after suffering trauma to his abdomen early in the match.

Fiji can at least take solace in that they now hold the world record for the number of yellow cards handed to one team in an international test, overtaking the previous record of four, held by Italy, Georgia and England.
