Felix Jones is reportedly set to 'work from home' as he sees out his 12 month notice after leaving his position as England's defence coach.

Jones, the Dubliner who made 90 appearances for Munster and 13 for Ireland, joined Steve Borthwick's coaching team after the 2023 World Cup but departed in August, citing his unhappiness "with an unstable working environment."

He has since been replaced by the Oyonnax director of rugby Joe El-Abd, but will continue to work for England rugby remotely, providing 'tactical analysis' over the course of the next year.

Jones quit after England's tour of Japan and New Zealand, raising questions about the mood in the camp.

Having began his coaching career with Munster after an injury enforced retirement from rugby, Jones joined South Africa, winning the 2019 and 2023 World Cups as part of Rassie Erasmus' coaching ticket.

His appointment was deemed a major coup for England but it didn't last, with his departure coming hot on the heels of Aled Walters exodus. Walters was the head of strength of conditioning for England rugby but left for a role with Ireland.

“They will be a loss,” said England full-back George Furbank at the time.

“I loved working with Felix especially. I thought he was a very good coach so he’ll definitely be missed but I’m sure Steve has got some guys who he’s been looking out for who will step up into that role.

“We weren’t expecting it. Nobody really saw it coming. It was a bit of a shock."

It is reported in the Times that Jones has been told 'not to be with the squad for training sessions or matches' during their upcoming autumn series, with games on the horizon against New Zealand, Australia, South Africa and Japan.
