Reports earlier today suggested that following a meeting French clubs had decided to play in next season's Heineken Cup.

Those reports were true, but there now appear to be some conditions to their participation.

President of the LNR, Paul Goze, has said that they are willing to take part but on the condition that English clubs also participate.

French clubs can get involved in competitions run by the ERC in 2014-15 on condition that it will be staged with clubs from England.

There is a possibility that condition could be met according to the chief executive of Premiership Rugby, Mark McCafferty, who was quoted by the Press Association:

If somebody can outline what that transition would entail, how the issues would be overcome and exactly what the new structure in 2015-16 would be, then we could look at it. If we can see there is a new structure to replace ERC and we have the detail of that, then something might be feasible. At the moment it's all very general and difficult to comment on.

McCafferty was responding to news that French clubs wish for a transitional Heineken Cup season to be implemented before a completely new tournament is established for the 2015/16 season.
