It's a sad day for both Irish and world rugby as winger Doug Howlett has been forced to retire due to a shoulder injury. To mark the retirement of the great kiwi here are some of the best tries from his career and some photos of his time in Ireland.
Howlett was an unstoppable force for the All Blacks and is their record try scorer with an astonishing strike rate of 49 tries in 62 tests. He obviously racked up the tries by exploiting these sorts of mismatches. Poor Shane Byrne.
When both men were at their peak Howlett skinned Jason Robinson, which is some achievement.
When playing with the All Blacks his pace terrifyed everyone.
His move to Munster yielded immediate results and they lifted the Heineken Cup in his first season.
But one of the defining moments of his time in Ireland was his rendition of the Haka.
Although Jeremy Manning's moustache doesn't have the same Maori intensity that was given off by Howlett, Mafi and Tipoki.
His hair was so notorious it spawned countless imitators from both players and fans. Quickly enough, the worst thing about going to Munster games was knowing your view would be obstructed by a large Howlett wig.
Now that he is retired he can induldge in his favourite hobby: taking photos of strangers with a high resolution camera.
