That sumptuous drop goal may have been the defining moment of the World Cup final but it was another, less crucial, kick that Dan Carter may have taken just as much pleasure. With New Zealand guaranteed a second consecutive title, Beauden Barrett's breakaway try put an extra bit of gloss on things and the nature of it meant that Carter had the opportunity to indulge in a little bit of fun.

Rather than simply sweep over another two points with his near faultless left foot, Carter decided slot it over with his lesser seen right boot.

It may not have been quite as smooth a kicking action as we're used to seeing but it certainly wasn't bad. And although it was a small footnote in the grand scheme of things, there was no way Carter was going to be allowed off without explaining why his last kick in an All Blacks jersey was with his bad foot.

It was a bit weird but it’s always been a dream of mine to kick a conversion right-footed. I sort of had a bit of fun with the guys in the team that it would ever happen.

That may seem a bit like he's taking in the piss in the World Cup final. But this is Dan Carter we're talking about, you better believe he knew exactly what he was doing.

The opportunity came. I practised a few in training off my right foot and I just thought I’d give it a little go.

If it was someone else maybe you'd say it was disrespectful to the opposition at a moment like that. Given the career he's had and his performance in the final, we think it's fair to say that even the Wallabies will allow Carter that small moment of indulgence.
