Craig Doyle had rubbished reports that he told the Sun's entertainment editor Ken Sweeney that he doesn't see himself as Irish. Doyle vigorously disputes that he made the comments but audio has been produced casting doubts over his denials.
The Sun quoted Doyle as saying he "doesn't see himself as Irish any more." Doyle told Rick O'Shea on 2fm that this all a load of hooey (we're not sure if that's a direct quote.)
So. We just chatted to @craigadoyle. Says this is all a load of hooey. Glad to clear that up :-) pic.twitter.com/m74QqUsAsW

Doyle also strongly refuted the claims on his Twitter account.
Let me clarify, I'm Irish and proud of it, don't believe all you read it can be dangerous - go raibh míle maith agat! :)

However, one hour later, Ken Sweeney uploaded the audio of said interview on his Twitter account. It is hard to make out the voice in the tape but it does appear to be Doyle speaking. The tape is a small bit indistinct and it would be nice to get the audio of Doyle's comments just before he made the quoted remarks. We will allow the possibility that the quotes may have been taken slightly out of context. Sweeney was at pains to say that he found Doyle to be a thoroughly nice fellow.
Nothing more touching than hacks on rival papers/online jumping in to help- when 2fm calls your story 'hooey' http://t.co/zBMPVoXlZx
