Some sad and unfortunate news for Connacht Rugby fans today as South African fly-half Martin Boshoff has been released from the final year of his contract on compassionate grounds.
Boshoff had requested to move to South Africa after his father died suddenly in the early part of 2017.
The Springbok was signed last October as the replacement for the Dublin born and USA international AJ MacGinty.
Boshoff only made four appearances for the province after a shoulder injury kept him on the sidelines for the majority of the campaign,
He released a statement on Connacht Rugby's website,
“I would like to thank Connacht Rugby for agreeing to my request to be released from the final year of my contract after what has been a difficult season for me both on and off the field. During my time with the province I have experienced first-hand the unique sense of pride and community that exists throughout the province.
“There is an incredible group of players representing Connacht and I am proud to say I was part of this group. I have learned hugely from both players and management over the past season and this experience will have a positive impact on my career in the future.
“I would also like to thank the Connacht supporters who have been incredible when I represented them on the field and with their personal good wishes off the field. I wish Connacht every success in the future.”
Meanwhile, Independent.ie are reporting that Connacht are ready to sign former Australian U20 outhalf Andrew Deegan from the Waratahs.
Deegan represented Australia in the 2013 U20 Rugby World Cup in Italy and will now compete with Irish pair, Jack Carty and Steve Crosbie for the fly-half's jersey for the upcoming season.
