Connacht centre Dave McSharry has been ruled out of rugby for the rest of the season owing to multiple concussions. McSharry suffered four concussions in 2015, the most recent occurring in December.
Connacht confirmed the news with this website on their statement:
Having sustained a number of concussions in the past 12 months, Dave McSharry has been reviewed by a specialist. He has been advised to undertake a period of rest from the game for the remainder of the current season.
Dave, who has a contract with Connacht for next season, will continue to train in a non-contact capacity with the squad.
McSharry's standing down follows soon after the news that Mike McCarthy will miss the rest of the season following a serious concussion against France. McSharry's plight is similar to that of Johnny Sexton, who removed himself from rugby for 12 weeks before last year's Six Nations having suffered four concussions in 2014.
Concussion claims another victim; Dave McSharry from Connacht ordered to "take a rest from the game" for rest of season.
