Data has transformed sport. Wearable GPS devices have provided sports teams and athletes with robust insights into performance and injury avoidance, which have in turn profoundly changed how the sports we love are played. Interestingly, it has been Irish companies like Newry-based STATSports who have been driving the global advancement of data in sport.
This year, STATSports announced a partnership with the IRFU to supply the Irish men's and women's rugby team, as well as the four provinces, with its Apex Team device which tracks players during games and training, and provides feedback to coaching and medical staff.
Ireland were indeed wearing Apex Team devices during Saturday's famous victory over the All Blacks.
But its not just elite sports teams who find value in STATSports and their products. The Apex Athlete unit from STATSports is a very valuable piece of technology for anyone serious improving their performance on the rugby pitch, or indeed any sport. The Apex Athlete unit sits in the pocket of a fitted vest and measures athletes in terms of distance, speed, fatigue and injury risk.
We're delighted to say we have one Apex Athlete unit as well as an Ireland rugby jersey to give away today to Balls.ie readers. To enter, just identify the Ireland #12 seen wearing the Apex Team Series tracker in the below photo.
