While Munster fans would have been delighted to see RG Snyman experience Rugby World Cup success with South Africa, there was some bad news about the effects the tournament had on his body soon after the final victory over New Zealand.
No stranger to injury issues during his time at Thomond Park, the lock is now set for another spell on the sidelines after undergoing surgery on his shoulder and chest in his homeland last week. It remains unclear when he will return to action.
In fact, The Times are reporting that Munster are now seeking financial compensation from the South African authorities as a result of the injury.
RG Snyman has suffered a number of major injuries during his spell at Munster, including two serious knee issues. He would finally regain his fitness towards the end of last season, playing a key role in the province's URC triumph.
The player's contract is up at the end of the season, and despite his lack of availability, it has been suggested that Graham Rowntree is keen to retain his services moving forward. However, it looks as though they will face plenty of competition in their bid to keep him on the book.

Munster to face plenty of competition for RG Snyman signature
South Africa outlet Rapport are reporting that numerous South African clubs are keen to sign RG Snyman in the summer of 2024. While the report did not name the clubs involved, it suggested that a few teams in the country were to compete with overseas sides in a bid to sign the 28-year old.
The player previously played for The Bulls before his move abroad, while The Sharks are perhaps in the best financial position of all the South African teams to make such a move. It is thought that Japanese clubs will also show an interest, with the second row having a spell in that country from 2017-2020. A move elsewhere in Europe should also not be ruled out.
With that in mind, it is clear that Munster will not be able to sign the RG Snyman on a discounted deal despite his persistent injury issues.
It will be interesting to see how the situation unfolds in the months ahead.
