A painful looking injury to one of the touch judges during a Toulon and Racing Metro pre-season friendly forced former All Black Chris Masoe to take over as an official for the final minutes of the game.
The Toulon backrow, who has 20 New Zealand caps, took up the position after two opposing players landed on the official's lower leg as he stood in touch.
His unexpected role didn't test his knowledge of the game too much as he only had to raise the flag once for a lineout.
