The GAA have agreed to have Leinster rugby play their matches at Croke Park as well as host pre-season soccer friendlies this summer.
Central Council were presented with a plan to use Croke Park for major rugby and soccer fixtures due to the Aviva Stadium due to go under necessary renovations.
The plan also included the access to used Nowlan Park in Kilkenny to host a Leinster URC match later this year and Australian promotions group TEG are to stage soccer matches later this summer at the GAA HQ.
The vote split evenly. New GAA president Jarlath Burns had the deciding vote and opted for a policy change and host rugby and soccer matches at GAA grounds.
Leinster Could Play Knockout Games at Croke Park
The Aviva is expected to be unavailable in early May, so should Leinster be in a position to host the Champions Cup semifinal on May 4th, Croke Park will be the likely venue.
Croke Park is also set to host Leinster's knockout fixtures in the URC. The quarter-finals of that competition are set to take place on the weekend of June 8th. Hwever the Leinster Senior Hurling final is to take place on June 8th, meaning Croke Park can only be used on Friday June 7th for the URC quarter-final. It will also be used if Leinster are to reach the semis and final of the URC.
The last rugby match to take place in Croke Park was Ireland's loss to Scotland in the 2010 Six Nations.
The motion passed also include an extra rugby match to be played at Supervalu Pairc Uí Chaoímh later this year. Munster have used the stadium on two occasions in the two victories over South Africa 'A' and the Crusaders from New Zealand.
The rumoured plan to use Croke Park as a fanzone for the Europa League Final was also given the green light with Liverpool one of the contenders to reach the final to be hosted at the Aviva Stadium.
