Brodie Retallick said he was happy to even the score with Peter O'Mahony in the moments following the All Blacks' quarter-final victory over Ireland at last year's Rugby World Cup.
Retallick reportedly told O'Mahony, 'Oi Peter, four more years you fuckwit' after Sam Whitelock won a penalty to end Ireland's drive for what would have been a game-winning try. The All Blacks won 28-24 and eventually lost out to South Africa in the final.
"I said what was reported," Retallick told the What a Lad podcast when asked what he said to O'Mahony.
Retallick added that O'Mahony "said nothing" in reply.
During the 2022 summer tour to New Zealand, O'Mahony had told All Blacks captain Sam Cane that he was a "shit Richie McCaw" after Ireland won the second test.
Retallick said that O'Mahony was also "spraying" when Ireland won a week later to claim a 2-1 series victory.
"When they beat us in Wellington in that series [in 2022], he was just into us on the field, spraying us left, right, and centre," said Retallick.
"I enjoy it. When you’re having your day, you let them know it, but I’m definitely going to give it back when we’re having our day, and what better moment than that one right there after the penalty, that’s for sure."
Retallick retired from international rugby following the World Cup as the ninth most capped All Black of all-time and the second most capped second row.
