Brian O'Driscoll and Ben Kay gave a masterclass in the art of the offload on BT Sport's Rugby Tonight.
O'Driscoll said that the number of offloads are increasing in game out of necessity.
"Defensive systems have gotten so impressive recently that it's so hard to break them down so you've got to do something to change that up to not allow them to set up as quickly and as effectively as they are doing," said O'Driscoll.
"If you continue to change the point of contact, you don't create rucks and you don't allow defensive lines to know where that offside line is and to attack the attacking team."
For young players who want to increase their ability to offload, Ben Kay suggested increasing their drip strength.
The two used three recent examples of offloads from Racing 92's Leone Nakarawa, Exeter's Ollie Devoto and Edinburgh's Bill Mata to demonstrate different situations and what players are thinking in the moment.
