There was laughter in the BT studio as Craig Doyle, Lawrence Dallaglio and Brian O'Driscoll watched Nigel Owens have a word with Bordeaux captain Baptiste Serin and Exeter captain Gareth Steenson during the two teams' Champions Cup game on Sunday evening.
Nigel Owens had to enquire for Dungannon man Steenson's name before proceeding with the discussion.
'A shocker' Dallaglio called it with a smile on his face.
The three laughed before a moment of somberness hit O'Driscoll and he offered some criticism of Owens. O'Driscoll thought it poor form that the Welsh referee at that stage in the game did not know the Exeter captain's name.
We laugh at it but that is poor form. He's met him for the coin toss. He's probably even talked to him a few times over the course of the game. To not know the captain's name in the second half pulling him to one side to have a quiet word - he really should know that.
Owens has since said on Twitter that rather than refer to Steenson by his nickname 'Steeno', he wanted to clarify what was the 32-year-old's first name.
Sincere apologies to @steeno10. Felt best to double check his name than call him by his nickname Steeno on the field https://t.co/sjdMPIrI3Z
