Biarritz Olympique have found a truly unique way of insulting their town mayor, Maider Arosteguy, whom the club are currently at loggerheads with.

As pointed out by Bernard Jackman on Twitter, the club used their graphic announcing last night's Pro D2 win over Colomiers to show their disdain for Arosteguy.

In the top left corner of the post, which was sent on Twitter and Instagram, is a picture of the mayor dressed as a clown. A remarkable image to witness on the official Twitter page of the club, and what is, besides the clown photo, a serious post.

Biarritz have been clashing with Arosteguy for months over what they perceive to be a lack of support.

The construction of a new training facility has also been a topic of much debate.  The club want it built at their stadium, the Parc des Sports Aguilera, which is owned by the city. However, Arosteguy has been planning to build a facility 3km from the stadium, which would also accommodate other sports.

Being a hugely successful and proud club with a rich history, Biarritz, who are now languishing in the second-tier of French rugby, believe the building of the facility at the stadium is essential for their progression.

Club owner, Jean-Baptiste Aldige, gave an interview to Midi-Olympique in January where he vented his frustrations.

“The proposal to the town remains the same on our side. If the town hall of Biarritz puts €15 million in the Aguilera stadium, we will put €15 to €20 million on our part and we will have our facilities at €35 million necessary for the survival of the club.

“I remind you that two years ago, the Mayor told us “go up to the Top 14 and we will give you the means”. Today, we are in the Top 14 and she does not give them to us. So that means she doesn’t want an ambitious club that develops at the professional level.

“Biarritz creates 100 jobs for an economic spinoff of €28 million of GDP in the town. I hope that the Mayor, who is a candidate for ministerial posts with Mrs Pécresse, will not be appointed Minister of the Economy or Sports.”
