Craig Joubert was in no mood to stand around soaking up the atmosphere at the end of yesterday's humdinger in Twickenham. This is perhaps understandable when the atmosphere consists mainly of people standing around hurling abuse at you.
Some of the angrier post match reports said he bolted or sprinted for the tunnel. In truth, it was more of a sprightly jog, but it was still unusual to see a referee abandon the pitch so soon after the final whistle.
The Sydney Morning Herald reports that Joubert was very nearly struck by a bottle as he made for sanctuary. The incident was not caught on camera and is being disputed by some fans.

In the post-match analysis, Joubert was subsequently savaged from all sides for not doing something he was not legally allowed to do.
The Scottish press man have busily labelling him a disgrace and announcing that he should never referee again. And that's just the mild mannered ones.
