The 12 man panel of referees for the Rugby World Cup was named yesterday evening with two (really three) Irishmen among the selected, George Clancy, John Lacey and representing the RFU, JP Doyle.
The former was 'congratulated' on his selection by Wasps fly half Andy Goode.
I see George Clancy has been selected as a World Cup referee today, hope he can spot a blatant shirt pulling by September!

Mr Clancy was the referee for Wasps' 32-18 loss in Toulon. Clancy failed to spot Ali Williams pulling back Elliot Daly off the ball as Wasps mounted a counter-attack. A few minutes later, when he should have been stewing in the bin, Williams himself scored the killer try in the corner.
The referees panel for the World Cup consists of three Frenchmen (Garces, Poite and Pascal Gauzere), two New Zealanders (Chris Pollock and Glen Jackson), two South Africans (Joubert and Jaco Peyper), two referees who work under the auspices of the RFU (Barnes and Doyle) and one Welshman (Owens).
