It was seen as a wise move from Kerry youngster at the time, but JJ Hanrahan's move to Northampton hasn't really gone the way he wanted.
Munster and the IRFU were hammered from all sides for allowing the former Junior World Rugby Player of the Year nominee Hanrahan leave to Northampton.
It looked really bad for Munster at the start, when Ian Keatley was horribly out of form, and the reports from England were that Hanrahan was finally given a chance to display his skills.
But then everything changed. Northampton started picking Stephen Myler over Hanrahan, and the Munster flier wasn't getting a look-in, with Harry Mallinder (the coach's son) getting the nod at 12 with Luther Burrell. At the same time, Johnny Holland and Rory Scannell emerged as Munster's future at 10 and 12.
Hanrahan ended up with just four starts in the Premiership for Northampton. Coming off the bench 13 times. He had 10 starts for Munster in the PRO12 the year before with 9 sub appearances.
Mallinder shone at the World Rugby U20s Championships today, as did Bill Johnston - another contender for the Munster outhalf slot.
All of a sudden, Hanrahan has gone from a Munster saviour to almost an afterthought.
While Kevin's point is probably a little overstated, it can be argued that Munster don't have the desperate need for Hanrahan to return like they did.
He's still a precocious talent, and Irish Rugby would be lucky to have him - but so far Hanrahan's move has not gone as planned. Another warning to young Irish players at the end of their contract.
