Matt O'Connor has further endeared himself to Leinster fans by calling them a distraction ahead of Leinster's big Champions Cup semi-final against Toulon this weekend.
O'Connor has come under increasing pressure from fan on social media about Leinster's results, performances and overreliance on their internationals this season. O'Connor took time out from his press conference yesterday to respond to some of the criticism he has been taking:
It’s a noise, it is a distraction and it’s about the group and preparing them to be as good as they can.
Leinster fans have become increasingly noisy and frustrated with the shackled style of play Leinster have displayed this season, that see them average just 5.1 offloads a game. Compare that to Toulon (17), and you see where the difference between the two teams is for this weekends games.
It wasn’t a lack of ambition last year, I think it was a lack of execution. There was a lot of intent, probably too much.
O'Connor said, referring to their loss to Toulon in last year's Heineken Cup quarter final. It'll be a big challenge for Leinster, but not an impossible task.
