Update: Far be it from us dredge up the past in some kind of petty vendetta but that's exactly what we're going to do. If you haven't seen it already then you might want to take a look at Mike Brown's post-match interview following the defeat by Wales.

Brown has been resoundingly criticised for his rather petty answers but it got us thinking about an interview he gave in the past following similar disappointment.

The following is a report from March 22nd of this year, not long after Ireland had won the Six Nations.

Going into Saturday's games, if you told an Irish fan that England were going to score seven tries against France then they would undoubtedly have said that the Championship would end up in the possession of Stuart Lancaster's side.

Amazingly a total of 55 points against the French was not enough for the English as they fell six short on points difference. The reason for this was Ireland's demolition of Scotland.

England's Mike Brown is still smarting at how close run an affair it all was. The fullback praised the French for their effort especially "compared to a few other countries". Would one of those include Scotland, perchance?

Massive credit to the French for the way they fronted up for this game and for the way they played, compared to a few other countries.

Fair play to France, they played a game. I don't need to saying anything else. Everyone knows it.

It was fast paced, end to end. We played good rugby, they played good rugby. France turned up and made a game of it. They could have easily folded, so it was great to see that from them, from a spectator point of view.

The sentiment expressed by Brown is one which Stephen Jones certainly agrees with.
