Could Pau's growing Irish continent have their own legendary All Black delegation next year? After the French Pro D2 leaders announced the signing of Conrad Smith, there are suggestions in the French media that he could be joined by an even bigger legend.
Richie McCaw to Pau
Toulon head coach Bernard Laporte has been reported in saying that Pau are close to agreeing a deal for three-time World Player of the Year Richie McCaw.
Should McCaw join the Pyrenees team, he'll have huge competition for his place in the back row from ex-Munster James Coughlan, while Sean Dougall and Paddy Butler have also agreed deals to join next year.
Pau vice-president Yannick Le Garreres has moved to deny these rumours, saying that this is typical Laporte and he doesn't know what Laporte is talking about. Could this be a smokescreen, or will Sir Richie be taking his services elsewhere?
It's interesting that these rumours come out at the same time that New Zealand media are discussing McCaw's future, with the flanker due to sit down with the CEO of NZRU Steve Tew over his plans.
