After rumours began circulating yesterday about Roy Keane potentially succeeding Steve Bruce as manager at West Bromwich Albion, the Cork man confirmed his interest in returning to the hot seat.

Keane was on punditry duty with Jamie Carragher during Nottingham Forest's game against Aston Villa on Monday Night Football.

While the pair were speaking about the pressures and effects that playing and managing has on your mental health, Jamie Carragher took the chance to ask Roy about the links to the vacant West Brom job.

Carragher said:

Roy can I ask you about management?  The West Brom job, tonight, you're actually one of the favourites. I don't want to obviously get into that but it still feels to me that you'd like to get into management. Is that right or not?

Roy Keane replied by saying "Yeah, I hope so. I want to keep that door open."

His partner on Monday Night Football then asked him why he still wanted to get back into management, with Keane saying that he felt he still had something to offer in the management side of the game.

Keane said:

I think sometimes when I do a lot of the media stuff it can leave me unfulfilled. I think I have something to offer as a manager. That's the bottom line. I still think I could do something with a club.

I think I could help players and I could be a good manager.

Obviously you feel like you can fix a club and if you're fixing a club you're winning football matches. The feel good factor comes back, but everyone who goes into a job thinks that they can do that and that's why it has to be the right job or the right time or whatever it might be.

You also got to be careful what you wish for, I don't want to be critical of what I'm doing now because I have a good life, I enjoy what I do. But sometimes I feel there's something in the pit of my stomach that feels I should have another go at it and that won't go away.

Keane to WBA?

Following an abysmal start to the season which has seen West Brom pick up just 11 points from their first 13 games, Steve Bruce was sacked as manager, just eight months after being appointed.

After a run of eight games without a win, the Baggies are sitting in the relegation zone and know that finding the right fit of a manager will be vital to their hopes for the rest of the season.

Back in February, three months after being sacked by Newcastle, Steve Bruce succeeded Valerian Ismael as manager. Despite the initial good start to his time with West Brom, a disappointing end to the season which saw the Midlands club only win once in their final 13 games, led to a 10th place finish.

Roy Keane continues to be linked with most vacant managerial posts in the Championship these days, and is one of the early front runners to replace his former teammate. Back in August he was rumoured to be interested in the Sunderland job and six months before, he was heavily linked with Hibernians in the SPFL.

Last week, Keane was pictured at Deepdale during West Brom's 1-0 defeat to Preston North End.

The former Manchester United and Celtic midfielder hasn't managed since his stint at Ipswich over a decade ago.

Other managers who also seem to be in the running are Sean Dyche and Chris Wilder.
