If Man United and Erik Ten Hag thought that the second-half during their 2-1 loss Brighton last week showed signs of progression, they could not have been more wrong.
They currently find themselves 4-0 down at half-time away to Brentford, in what will go down as one of the worst 45 minutes in the club's history.
Brentford took the lead after just nine minutes when David De Gea let a fairly tame shot from Josh Dasilva leak past him into the net. Just eight minutes later Brentford went 2-0 in front, when they punished Man United for attempting to play it out from the back with a goal from Mathias Jensen.
Brentford then scored two more goals in quick succession. After 30 minutes, Ben Mee headed the home side 3-0 in front when United failed to deal with a corner, before Bryan Mbeumo finished off a clinical counter attacking move.
Naturally, the footballing world was aghast, and took to Twitter to try and make head or tail of what they had witnessed. They included a a tweet from Gary Lineker stating, 'This could finish with Erik Ten Down', while Brentford themselves also released a cheeky tweet asking, 'Anyone checked on Gary and Roy?'

This bloke knew. It's a joke many blamed Rangnick for this squad's lack of performance after Ole left. He asked the team to run, to be brave, and they went on holiday. Ralf knew & now Erik ten Hag knows. #MUFC #BREMUN pic.twitter.com/nO88oSYuZn

4-0 Brentford. Vulnerable and fearful, #mufc so weak physically and mentally. The rot within the club starts with the Glazers. Owners’ focus is dividends first, results second. #BrentfordFC hungrier and better organised, just as their club is better run and led. #BREMUN

While Man United are in rebuild more, and nobody expected them to challenging for the title, their start to the season, and in particular the first half we have just witnessed, is far from anything any fan or pundit could have imagined.
Such was the poor quality of this performance, that if they continue to play in this fashion, Erik Ten Hag could find his position under serious pressure in the near future.
