Luis Manuel Diaz has found himself in the public eye since being abducted in Colombia last October. After thankfully being released by members of the ELN, an active guerilla group in the country, he has spent most of his time on Merseyside with his son.
Liverpool fans have really taken to the father of one of their stars, whose charasmatic and energetic vibe while watching games has been picked up by TV cameras.
Luis Diaz has been an ever present in Jurgen Klopp's side this season. He's showed glimpses of his 21/22 form after recovering from last season's ACL injury.
While nothing concrete has been reported on his future at the club, his father has now surprisingly suggested that his career could veer away from Anfield.
Liverpool supporters taken back by links to Spain
With a break in the domestic season for this week's international games, Diaz Sr. arrived in Madrid for Colombia's game against Romania at the Metropolitano Stadium.
Prior to the game, he spoke to Spanish radio station Cadena SER
He was asked about both Atletico and Real Madrid's long relationship with Colombian players, and whether an opportunity for his son to join either of the Spanish giants had ever been possible.

Luis Manual Diaz replied that 'hope has not yet been lost'.
I was not aware that there was anything positive with Madrid clubs. I heard things, but I never knew if there was anything else. With Liverpool everything was more precise.
The directive was more precise for Luis to get there. He hoped that he could come here. Falcao had already been there, James too... In the end it didn't happen, but hope has not yet been lost. He is playing and the clubs are active .
Diaz Sr. also feels that his son is already 'loved' around the Spanish capital.
You can feel the support and affection of the people for Luis here. I go out here for a walk and they ask me for a lot of photos. There are many expectations. Luis lets himself be loved and the fans, seeing that great Colombian players have passed through here, love him. Falcao, James, Perea played here... People like the fact that Luis Díaz is here today .
They're certainly not the sort of comments that Liverpool fans will want to be hearing during the business end of the season, with the side still fighting for Premier League and European silverware.
Many fans took to social media to react to Diaz Sr's interview.
Lost our hope yet? He doesn’t want him to stay at Liverpool😭😭

What was that suppose to mean— livelife (@livelife_memes) March 26, 2024
All he's done is talk about wanting Diaz to leave? I don't get it at all. Weird guy. https://t.co/tVpgpy9Oga

Haven't heard public gestures about openly leaving the club since Coutinho. I'd expect him to leave this or next summer, that mindset is not what we need with a new manager coming in.

His father needs to take the back seat a bit. And people need to realise his dad is just a free spirit who doesn't have professional tact like an agent. People need to relax

Whether Luis Diaz does stay at Anfield under new management next season is yet to be seen, but Diaz Sr's quotes have undoubtedly ruffled some feathers among fans.
